Andres L, 20K Trade The Pool funded trader from Mexico

Andres L.

Andres, with 5 years of trading experience, initially struggled with stocks until he found a suitable strategy. He mainly trades small-cap stocks, identifying those with high volume or news-driven movements.

His journey underscores the significance of disciplined risk management, aiming for small, consistent gains over high-risk plays. By adhering to the rules, he passed his trading evaluation on the first attempt with a $20,000 buying power account.

By identifying small caps with high volume or news-driven movements, he’s able to utilize price action and level trading. Andres focuses on short selling but also takes long positions when criteria are met. His approach slightly varies between small and large caps, with an emphasis on understanding market patterns at the open for the latter.

Tip 1

Finding one's edge

I believe finding your edge in trading is personal, as long as you respect your risk. For instance, some people might do five trades per day, while others might do three. Personally, my goal is to become a full-time trader. Although I’m a software engineer by career, I aim to transition to full-time day trading, covering markets and financial instruments. The most important part of the job is managing your risk, as it's the only thing you can control.

Tip 2

Risk management first

The first priority is risk management, not to aim for home runs. You might hit them occasionally, but the goal is to stay cool, calm, and collected, steadily collecting money from the market. Don't rush; be patient and respect your risk.

Tip 3

A+ setups

Depending on what I see on the daily, if they don't have news, my strategy is based on finding A+ setups. At some point, they might do an offering or put a lot of shares on the market. That's when I find the opportunity for these stocks to go back to a level I wanted for a target profit.
